Jeffrey Howenstein, DMD, MS, Board Certified Pediatric Dentist
Meet Dr. Howenstein
Dr. Howenstein was born and raised in Belleville, IL. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. He graduated from Southern Illinois University, School of Dental Medicine in 2012, where he received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.
Due to his passion for working with and helping children, he decided to pursue a career where he could improve children's oral health and calm their potential anxiety and fear of the dentist. He completed a two year residency in pediatric dentistry at the Ohio State University where he served as chief resident. He received a specialty certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and a Master's of Science in Dentistry Degree, and earned a well established knowledge base in all aspects of pediatric dentistry including behavior guidance techniques, conscious sedation, orthodontics, caring for patients with special health are needs, oro-facial trauma, and hospital training. He then completed his board certification and is a Diplomat for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He has also earned the distinction of being a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a recognition “distinguishing those persons who have contributed above and beyond to the field of pediatric dentistry.”
He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Sioux City Dental Society, and the South Dakota Dental Association. He also serves as part time faculty at UNMC medical center, teaching the pediatric dental residents clinically and academically. Dr. Howenstein's research, "Correlating Parenting Styles with Child Behavior and Caries" has been published in Pediatric Dentistry, and his results have been quoted and published in other
well-recognized research journals, as well as American Baby magazine.
Dr. Howenstein joined Dunes Dental 4 Kids in July of 2014. His wife is from southwest Iowa, and they both fell in love with Sioux City when they visited, and felt it was a great place to settle down and raise a family.
Dr. Howenstein and his wife, Abby, have four children: Benjamin, Noah, Thomas, and Lindy. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, and playing/watching sports.
